DLA WAY- NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER

PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL
PARENT MOMENT:

Hey DLA Families,
I hope everyone is doing well. We have reached the month of November in this crazy year. Besides the election we have Thanksgiving to look forward to even if it may look differently this year. I think we all can name somethings we are thankful for.
Some of the things I am is: God, my 3 kids, my friends, my family, and my health.
I hope everyone’s Thanksgiving is wonderful and full of happiness.
If you are struggling with sending your kids to school or struggling with virtual learning just remember you are doing a great job and if it helps just take it, one day at a time. If you need anything do not forget we are here for you and your family. I hope everyone has a good month and a great ending!

Best Wishes,                                   Katie Burns- PAC Parent

Grades 3-8 will return HYBRID beginning November 9th

We are looking forward to our 3-8 students returning in person! We will begin our in person classes on Monday, November 9th with no more than 12 students in the classroom. 3-8 students will be assigned to Section 1: 2 days in person, 3 days remote OR Section 2: 3 days in person, 2 days remote. Teachers will assign students to a section based on student needs and services. Students will still be assigned to current homeroom. Upon returning, please review school supply lists, make sure your student has an appropriate sized mask, is in uniform ,and has a water bottle.

Each month we celebrate students accomplishments in making perfect attendance, exhibiting our core values, earning dojo points and also Thunder bucks as a class! See the winners!

Engaging Families

We know that families are the number one influence on students and have the power to help their child succeed. This is why we plan family engagement events each month. In October we had 91% attendance at 1st quarter conferences. In November we are showing our thanks for DLA families by organizing a food drive to create Thanksgiving baskets.
If you would like to donate or are apart of an organization that would like to help, contact Mrs. Matthews at [email protected]

Attendance Matters!
If you are showing up in person or logging in at home, we want to see you! Please note that virtual academy still exists! Log into Google Classroom anytime of the day at least once a day to complete assignments to be counted.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL:

It’s hard to believe it is November already. At DLA we continue to work towards our school priorities.

Proficiency and Beyond
Every two weeks students in 3rd -8th grade take bi-weekly assessments in reading and math to assess their mastery of standards taught. Additionally, at the end of 1st quarter students took end of quarter exams. Since the tests are taken online, students see their results immediately and are very proud to share
when they scored 100% or improved their scores from a previous test.

Invest in Teachers
Every Friday DLA teachers gather for professional development from 3:30-4:30. Teachers participate in workshops, examine assessment data, and create re-teach plans. Having time to collaborate with colleagues improves teachers’ performance.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Asinjo, Principal
