Welcome to Dayton Leadership Academies!
Dear DLA Families:
On behalf of the entire DLA Staff, we welcome you back for the 2016-2017 school year!
Highlights from the 2015-2016 school year include:
A #1 ranking among 38 schools in the City of Dayton for our student growth.
The State of Ohio gave DLA the Momentum Award for student growth. DLA was one of only four schools in Montgomery County to receive this award.
DLA averaged more than 94% on student attendance for the entire school year.
Terrance Robinson received the College Promise Scholarship and is attending Chaminade-Julienne. Terrance is the sixth DLA student in three years to receive this scholarship.
100% of our students and their families signed the DLA Compact agreement that focuses on student behavior, attendance and making academic progress and family participation.
The Reading Lab opened and served more than 20 students. The Reading Lab identifies students with dyslexia and provides one-on-one tutoring to help these students learn to process language that contributes to more success in reading and other subjects.
Chromebooks were purchased for all grade levels. We now have carts for each grade level for easy access for regular use.
Summer Launch results indicated that we avoided the “summer slide” for our students who participated.
Looking ahead to the 2016-17 school year:
Our Early Learning Academy continues to expand. We have three Kindergarten and three third grade classrooms this year.
We have bold goals for student academic growth again this year led by a target for 1.5 years of gain in reading and math.
Our Bring the Thunder incentive program includes classroom rewards for positive behavior as well as individual student awards. We are hosting House Team celebrations each month to acknowledge students who are exhibiting good behavior and academic achievement.
DLA was awarded a 21st Century grant to open a before and after school program. This will be targeted tutoring for students who need the most help and some recreational opportunities for participating students and workshops for their parents. DLA was one of two schools to receive this grant in Montgomery County.
Our Administrative Team of Dr. Wallace, Executive Director (7th year at DLA), Mrs. Asinjo, Assistant Principal for Teacher Leadership (2nd year at DLA), Mrs. Becky Yerman, Assistant Principal for Student Services (1st year at DLA), Mr. Wright, Dean of Students (9th year at DLA) and Mrs. Jennifer Mills, Director of Family and Community Outreach (1st year at DLA) wish to thank every DLA family for trusting our entire Staff to help your children develop academically and build positive character traits. Families and DLA Staff working hard together will certainly make the new school year a great success for your children!
